Postural Stability

Postural stability is defined as the ability to maintain an upright position. It comes in two forms, static and dynamic. Static postural stability is when you are standing and not moving while dynamic stability is when you are moving or doing specific movements. Though you may not realize it, you are doing one or the other right now. Even when you are sitting down reading this blog you are doing some form of postural stability.

Balance training is important to improve posture functionality. We constantly need to be able to balance ourselves to do everyday activities.

As we age we are more likely to lose our sense of balance and become prone to falling. This is because our muscular strength is one of the most important factors that keep us balanced. When muscular strength reduction happens, so does the base support of the body’s ability to maintain postural stability. Unfortunately, the reduction of muscular strength is unavoidable as people get older, making balance training crucial.
